Hundreds of Mumbaikars join Greenpeace in demanding that Bayer phase out Class 1 Pesticides right away

Just as the Corporate Accountability Ship Tour was getting underway, Greenpeace India launched a weeklong mobilization and awareness campaign in Mumbai against Bayer. The purpose was to demand Accountability from this German Multinational who is guilty of practicing double standards with impunity.

Hundreds of Mumbaikars joined Greenpeace in demanding that Bayer act as a responsible corporate. They signed on to send e-petitions to the Company to tell them to Phase Out Class I Pesticides immediately, something the Company had promised to do in 1995 in their annual report. The petition also demanded that Bayer give an undertaking in the Supreme Court that they would stop producing toxic pesticides.

Greenpeace activists and volunteers met a huge number of people in the business hub of Mumbai, from Churchgate Station to Nariman Point, and from Fort to Victoria Terminus. Nearly 500 concerned citizens registered their protest on the very first day itself. Even a couple of Bayer employees gladly signed on to demand from their own company greater accountability and
a stop to the double standards they knew their company was practicing!

What was gratifying was that a number of volunteers joined Greenpeace in spreading awareness and mobilizing people by talking to passers by on the street. From college students to people on their way to work, to church parishioners, hundreds stopped, listened, questioned and finally took action.

Greenpeace is committed to continue to expose Corporate Crimes and to force Corporate Criminals such as Bayer to clean up their acts."
