Mr. Naveen Putharn testifies ...

'My life has changed for the worse in just two years,' says Naveen Putharn, a fisherman from Hospet, near Mangalore. The coastal tract where he fishes used to yield catches worth 3,000 to 4,000 rupees per day. Now he is happy if he gets catch worth a 1,000 rupees. 'The operation of the nearby power plant, started it all. They dispose some kind of chemicals close to the sea, and naturally the fish can’t survive in that filth. They have also dumped some junk that continues to corrode on the beach. The power plant must have benefited some people, but I am certainly not among those.'
