It was an eventful day for the Greenpeace team; two Greenpeace activists chained themselves to the doors of the front entrance of the HLL office near Chennai, in protest against the company's involvement in environmental degradation.

Quite close to the office Greenpeace activists also put up a large banner accusing H L L of dumping mercury in Kodaikanal. From its vantage location the effect of the banner was apparent among the citizens who were still unaware about their corporate neighbour's misdeed. 

Soon thereafter, members of the local and national media started arriving at the scene. In spite of the media's repeated requests, the H L L officials present at the scene did not clarify or elaborate on their stance regarding their proven role in damaging the environment. All they came up with was a press release that was vague and evasive.
