Stressing the need for effective management of Orissa’s Marine resources, Greenpeace, released an approach paper titled “Turning Seas of trouble into Seas of Plenty”. On the occasion, the environ mental watchdog highlighted the possibility of this turtle season being a season of change for Orissa’s fishing community and the olive ridley turtles, if the Orissa government implemented existing instruments, towards achieving sustainability in the management of its marine resources.

GM food, potential threat to fertility: New study Will Dr. Ramadoss act now?

A study published this week by the Austrian government identified serious health threats of genetically engineered (GE) crops. In one of the very few long-term feeding studies ever conducted with GE crops, the fertility of mice fed with GE maize was found to be severely impaired, with fewer offspring being produced than by mice fed on natural crops. Considering the severity of the potential threat to human health and reproduction, Greenpeace is demanding a recall of all GE food and crops from the market, worldwide.

Nokia bounces back to the top spot; HCL and Wipro look progressive in the Greener Electronics Ranking

From the penalty position, Nokia bounced back to the top spot (1) due to its improved take-back practice in India in the latest version of the Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics. Wipro and HCL continue to proactively move towards cleaner and greener production. However, Zenith slips to the bottom in the ranking with an ‘all nil’ because of its withdrawal of information from the company website (2).
